PREMIER video service acquires exclusive rights to show Soyuzmultfilm content online
03 August 2020

The PREMIER video service (part of Gazprom-Media Holding) and the Soyuzmultfilm animation studio have signed an agreement about the acquisition of exclusive digital rights to show a significant portion of the studio’s animated features on PREMIER. The licensing agreement covers 1,145 films, which is more than 76% of Soyuzmultfilm’s media library.

What's new on PREMIER

Under the agreement, PREMIER now has the fight to show 961 animated films from Souzmultfilm’s Golden Collection. These are cartoons made between 1941 and 2003, which will be posted on the video service on an exclusive basis. They include cult favourites Veselaya Karusel (The Happy Merry-Go-Round), Prostokvashino (Three from Prostokvashino), Nu, Pogodi! (Well, Just You Wait!), Vinni-Pukh (Winnie the Pooh), Maugli (Mowgli) and others.

The video service also has rights for the exclusive screening of new episodes of the animated series Veselaya Karusel, made between 2015 and 2018. PREMIER’s non-exclusive rights to the series extend until the end of September 2025.

The animated films of the two collections are available to all PREMIER subscribers from August 1, 2020. Moreover, the service now has 103 episodes of animated series that were made between 2018 and 2020. These include 30 episodes of the popular cartoon Prostokvashino, 26 episodes of the cartoon Monsiki in which the characters take a trip into a world of emotions, 36 episodes of the educational cartoons for preschoolers called Plastilinki, as well as 11 episodes of the adventure cartoon Piratskaya Shkola (Pirate School). The cartoons are available to view for people living in Russia and several CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

New stage in PREMIER’s development

The animated films made by Soyuzmultfilm allow the PREMIER video service to significantly expand its children’s content library. Today this library holds around 5,800 media items with more than 40% of the content made in Russia. After the agreement with Soyuzmultfilm, this figure will increase to 50%.

New PREMIER capacities

As of June 2020, PREMIER subscribers got a new feature in their profile through which they can customize content based on the child’s age (0+ and 12+). Subscribers can create one or several children’s profiles. Each one will have customized collections, personal recommendations, select cartoons, and the option to track browsing history. Special sections were made for preschoolers with content that is best suited to their age group - fairy tales, musical stories, educational cartoons, and content for family viewing. There will be significantly more special-interest content on the video service in the future, as well as audio content.
